The Fixed Assets General Ledger Posting routine needs to be run periodically to create the corresponding general ledger transactions for your fixed assets activity.
The navigation is: Tools >> Routines >> Fixed Assets >> GL Posting
This brings up the Fixed Assets General Ledger Posting screen:
I generally recommend that when specifying the Period selection range, you use “0000-000” for the “From” period. This will ensure that you get all unposted transaction up to your specified posting date. The “To” period specified is in a different format than you might be used to, e.g. 2017-005. In this case 2017-005 specifies May 2017. You can always use the date lookup to make sure you get the period value corresponding to the date you want.
If I’m in a situation where I’m playing “catch-up”, I run this routine for each period so that all the activity is not crammed into one entry. For example if I was catching up on 2017, I would run the routine four times to get to 04/30/2017 (in this order):
- From: 0000-000, To: 2017-001
- From: 0000-000, To: 2017-002
- From: 0000-000, To: 2017-003
- From: 0000-000, To: 2017-004
This would create four entries in the correct financial period in my general ledger.
Dynamics now includes the ability to specify whether the Fixed Assets General Ledger Posting transaction are posted in summary or detail. This is specified on the Fixed Assets Company Setup Screen:
From the Microsoft documentation:
Post in Detail
Mark to update General Ledger with Fixed Asset Management transactions in detail. When a batch is posted from the Fixed Assets General Ledger Posting window, a General Ledger journal entry is created for each Fixed Assets Management transaction in the batch. For example, two Fixed Assets Management transactions are created when you depreciate all assets for a month and then retire several assets. When you post a batch from the Fixed Assets General Ledger Posting window for those two transactions, a General Ledger journal entry is created for each Fixed Assets Management transaction.
Reset History in Detail
Mark to create a transaction to offset each existing transaction in historical years. Unmark to create one summary transaction in the last period of the most recent closed year.
