Dynamics allows you to easily post to the most recent historical year. This is a great feature if you need to post audit adjustments after you’ve performed a year end close.
- All you need to do is mark the “Allow Posting To History” option on the General Ledger Setup screen
- Open the period you want to post to, on the Fiscal Calendar
- Enter a General Journal Entry (make sure to select the correct date, to fall in to the correct fiscal year), and post
When the journal entry is posted the balance sheet account amounts roll forward to the next year, and any P&L account amounts are cleared to Retained Earnings and the Retained Earnings change is rolled forward to the next year.
After you’re done, you can close the period in the Fiscal Calendar, and un-mark the “Allow Posting To History” option on the General Ledger Setup screen.
If you need to post to years prior to the most recent historical year, you may want to reconsider. It can be done if you are willing to reverse year end closing for enough of the fiscal years to get back to the year you’re interested in.
