From time to time you may need to reconcile inventory in Dynamics GP to make sure summary item quantities accurately reflect detail transaction activity in your system. You can do this in the application by navigating to: Inventory >> Utilities >> Reconcile. This process will reconcile every item in your system. If you have a lot of items, this will take a long time.
An alternative is to use the Item Reconciler in the Professional Service Tools Library. According to the documentation, “The Reconciler ’s function is the same as the reconcile functions built into Microsoft Dynamics GP with one exception: only those items that need reconciling will be reconciled…” How this process knows which items need to be reconciled, I can’t imagine.
Here’s the complete documentation from Microsoft:
Item Reconciler allows you to reconcile Inventory. The Reconciler ’s function is the same as the reconcile functions built into Microsoft Dynamics GP with one exception: only those items that need reconciling will be reconciled using Professional Services Tools Library. This can increase performance if all items don’t need to be reconciled.
To reconcile Inventory:
- Choose the module you want to reconcile: Inventory.
- Choose Reconcile to reconcile the module(s).
Reconciling your inventory on a regular basis is probably a good practice. It will make sure your users are view and working with accurate numbers. The PSTL version makes the most sense if you have a lot of items and transactions.
